Conor McKee
Conor McKee is a playwright from Northern Ireland, currently based in the North West of England. His current play Thrasher is on a national tour with dates in Hull Truck; They Eat Culture/ The Continental, Preston; The Lantern Theatre, Sheffield; The Met, Bury; Rose Theatre, Edge Hill University, Ormskirk; Action Transport Theatre; Z-Arts, Manchester, The Brewhouse, Burton-upon-Trent; Carriageworks Theatre, Leeds; The Courtyard, London.
Thrasher was intially produced in association with The Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester and sold out all the dates for its national tour in advance. An In Response Writer Development Scheme is running as part of the tour. Conor was 2009-2010 Tinderbox writer on attachment and his previous play Burnt showcased at Contact, Manchester and toured nationally. Burnt sold out its initial run two weeks in advance, and both plays received critical acclaim.
Previous stage credits include (Writer/Director) After the Blood Rush at The 24:7 Theatre Festival, (Writer/ Producer) Prince of the Morning at Contact, Manchester play Days Before and Evenings After (both at Contact as part of Flip the Script).
Screen credits include (Writer/ Director) Whispers, screened at the Exposures National Film Festival, plus (Producer/ Script Editor) on Rain (funded by Screen Yorkshire) and The Meeting, an animation funded by Virgin Shorts.
In addition to writing, Conor has experience of working as a one-on-one mentor, in delivering writing workshops, seminars, and in taking part in question and answer sessions and panel events. He has been booked in this capacity by the Arden School of Theatre; Contact, Manchester , Salford University and PANDA as well as The Bluecoat Chambers in Liverpool and theatres up and down the country. He currently runs a young writers’ development scheme with Z-Arts and The 24:7 Theatre Festival.These services are available by private arrangement, or as part of a touring show.
Together with director Wyllie Longmore, he founded Script4Stage - a writer and director development programme that trains artists in the script development methods used by Conor and Wyllie.
Conor is a founder member and chair of the writing group Scriptworks, based at Contact, Manchester. This group uses professional actors to cold read new scripts and to drive script investigation and feedback sessions. Both writers and actors regularly book in to develop or maintain their skills.
